Visual Aids Centre was amongst the first premier centres to introduce the most advanced FDA approved LASIK procedure in India. We have had the great fortune of performing over 1,00,000 successful LASIK procedures in the last 25 years which is the highest number of LASIK procedures to be performed by a single centre in India.
The word LASIK stands for Laser in-situ Keratomileusis. It is a blade-free treatment, which uses Femtosecond Laser to create a corneal flap. This Flap is then lifted by our surgeon and beam of light called laser is focused on the bed of the cornea. This flattens the surface giving perfect vision correction. LASIK is recommended for people who have certain conditions like Myopia (Near-sightedness), Hyperopia (Farsightedness), or Astigmatism. LASIK only provides freedom from glasses and contact lenses FOR DISTANCE VISION ONLY.
CustomVue Technology is an FDA-Approved technology, that combines innovative technologies like WaveScan WaveFront™, Pentacam, and IR Excimer Laser for the laser vision correction procedure. The combination of such technologies helps the laser vision correction process to customize the treatment accordingly to the characteristics of each unique eye.
CustomVue technology treats vision-related problems like Myopia, Hyperopia, & Astigmatism way more effectively than any other technologies present now. It is a very safe and effective technology compared to most other eye surgery treatments available nowadays.
Benefits of Intralase method:
We consider it necessary for the patients to clearly understand the process of Intralase LASIK procedure and we only proceed with the treatment once all the doubts and queries of our patients are answered.
Here’s the basic procedure of the Intralase LASIK:
Pre-op:
Antibiotic drops to be administered 2-3 times, one day before the procedure or on the same day of the procedure. Patient is advised to discontinue the use of contact lenses and eye-makeup before the procedure.
On the day of the procedure:
Please be accompanied by at least one family member or friend who can drive you or accompany you back to your place of stay.
After proper pre-op preparation of the patient, he/she is taken inside the OT section and given some more antibiotic eye drops and is prepared for the procedure. The procedure begins within 10-15 minutes where the patient is made to lie down on the OT bed focused under the LASIK machine. The surgeon would be providing proper instructions and briefing to the patient about the entire procedure. During the entire duration of the procedure, the surgeon will be talking to the patient to make sure that the patient is comfortable and aware of every stage of the procedure. After about 5-7 min, the entire LASIK procedure is concluded.
Post-op :
The patient is then taken for a post-op check-up where the Doctor will have a look at the cornea through the slit lamp. The patient is then provided with all the required medicines and drops and proper post-op precautions are explained in detail by the Doctor.
WaveScan technology & Pentacam measure each eye’s unique imperfections and send the data digitally to VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser System.
Now the VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser System treats your eye very precisely.
Corneal Topography by Pentacam:
Pentacam is a combination of a Slit Illumination System and a Scheimpflug Camera. Both the Slit Illumination System and the Scheimpflug Camera rotate together around to create an image of your eye. This way the slit-camera device generates a series of radially oriented images of the anterior eye segment. Radially oriented images are produced by Slit Camera Device.
With a combination of these images, a 3D image of your eye is developed which will provide the data required for the surgery.
What does Pentacam do?
Pentacam makes a 3D photo of your eye which helps the surgeon to analyze the elevations in the center of your cornea.
WaveScan WaveFront™ System:
Every eye has its own unique characteristics just like a fingerprint. Hence, the same type of strategy can’t be used for every eye. To overcome this challenge the WaveScan WaveFront™ is used.
WaveScan WaveFront™ captures each unique imperfection in your eye with maximum precision. The system processes those imperfections and creates a map of your optical system. Then the system converts the information into personalized digital treatment instructions. Those instructions are then sent and processed by VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser System for the further treatment process.
IR Excimer Laser:
The VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser System is the latest technology of VISX technology. This advancement in technology took eye-surgery treatment to another level.
How does it VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser System work?
After integrating all the information from the WaveScan WaveFront™ system, a cool beam of ultraviolet light is emitted by Excimer Laser to remove the top layer of the cornea. The wavelength of the beam is typically near to 193 nanometers. As the corneal flap is removed, the cornea is restored in the right way and the flap is neatly placed back in its spot. This system is the best laser treatment for Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism.

Normally vision issues like Myopia, Hyperopia, and Astigmatism occur due to change in the shape of the cornea in your eye. LASIK helps to resize the cornea to its normal shape to cure your vision.
The main difference between IntraLASIK & LASIK is that normal LASIK surgery uses Microkeratome (which has a blade) to create the corneal flap and Intralase LASIK creates a flap with air bubbles (blade-free)
