ToggleWhat is the ESE Exam?
The Indian Engineering Services (IES) or Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is considered the most competitive and respective job for aspirants selected as engineers under India’s various ministries and government departments. For Indian engineering services, the IES or UPSC ESE Exam is conducted annually for civil, mechanical, electrical, and electronics telecommunications branches. The union public service commission conducts the national exam to hire engineering graduates. Two stages of this exam need to qualify for the selection process, i.e., the preliminary and main exams, followed by the interview process, which is the third and most challenging stage.
Medical examinations conducted for the ESE exam
Medical exams are conducted a month after the release of the IES final result. It is one of the most critical stages in the IES selection process.
The following tests are needed to be conducted:
- Urine test
- A blood test
- X-ray
- ECG
- The eye test includes a vision check, colour blindness, night vision, and much more. This is because they examine whether a candidate is eligible for the technical position.
- Eight, height, chest expansion, heart rate, blood pressure, etc.
Is LASIK surgery allowed in the ESE Exam?
Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis is commonly called LASIK. It is also a laser eye surgery used to treat myopia (near-sightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. The surgery ensures the permanent correction of all the imperfections in the eye. There will be no need to spend money on regular visits and new pairs of glasses or lenses at regular intervals.
But a seeker is eligible if he’d a radial keratotomy or ray correction( LASIK) under certain conditions. The technical, medical board performs medical tests to examine and confirm the medical fitness of a seeker, similar to corneal consistency and fungal complaint. The corneal bed ranges between 540 and 550 microns thick. And 12 to 14 microns of corneal towel consistency are released during the surgery. The remaining corneal bed consistency should be mentioned in the LASIK reports. However, a seeker can have it measured with a corneal pachymetry test before the medical examination, If it isn’t there.
Therefore, LASIK surgery is considered permissible under certain conditions, such as:
- The remaining corneal bed, including the flap, should not be thinner than 425 microns.
- The surgery must have been performed before the medical examination a year ago.
In addition, a candidate had to inform the medical board about the surgery before the medical examination.
A candidate with LASIK surgery is eligible for all technical and non-technical positions in all ESE-related departmental positions in the railway industry. For example, IRSE. However, doctors say LASIK surgery is usually undetectable in 99% of cases. They can only be detected if any complications, such as infections, occur during or after the surgery.
The UPSC’s Gazetted announcement about LASIK made the following points.
All the orders shall qualify for IOL and ICL. But, Radial Keratotomy/ Lasik are allowed for all if, on Pachymetry, the leftover bed of the cornea is at least 425 micrometres( including delirium). And the surgery must be at least one- time-old subject to retina examination by an SOB.
LASIK is thus permitted, but under the following contingency-
- The corneal bed shouldn’t be any thinner than 425 microns.
- The operation ought to be at least a time old.
- Also, before the medical examination, you must inform the medical board.
Do IES specialized services permit Lasik procedures?
Radial Keratotomy, Ray Correction, and analogous procedures are banned from being hired for road specialized services( Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, and Civil) positions. Specs are the only permitted form of correction for clinging to established visual norms.
Thus, a seeker who has had Lasik surgery will be good for all specialized or non-technical positions in all departments, except for specialized jobs in the road assiduity( like IRSE).
Is there any other way to proceed with the Lasik surgery so that the Indian Engineering Services ’ medical examination won’t pick it up?
According to Croakers, Lasik is undetectable in 99 cases. They can be linked if complications develop during or incontinently following surgery. You can get Femto LASIKr5 surgery for better issues.
Does the government accept Lasik?
Entry-position campaigners for the Navy, Air Force, National Defense Academy( NDA), Other Rank( OR), and Junior Commissioned Officers aren’t permitted if they’ve experienced LASIK or PRK( JCOs). Campaigners for aircrew duty in the Army who have had LASIK or PRK won’t be considered.
Who can not have Lasik surgery?
Autoimmune complaint victims aren’t ideal Lasik campaigners. Multitudinous autoimmune conditions bring on dry eye patterns. Dry eyes have an increased chance of developing post-Lasik infections and may not recover as effectively. Results after Lasik surgery are constantly impacted by fresh ails similar to diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, glaucoma, or cataracts.
