Is Lasik Permanent After The Procedure?

The exact answer to this question depends on the kind of Lasik surgery you get. Once you have gone through the entire drill of understanding whether you are eligible for the surgery or not. You will need to identify which clinic and doctors are the best for you. It is a medical procedure that is done completely voluntarily, so you have to be extremely careful about where you get the surgery done. The basic thing you have to look for is the training and experience the medical staff has. The kind of lifestyle you lead and even your age, all will affect the results of the Lasik eye surgery in the long run.

All these factors will affect whether your Lasik eye surgery is permanent or not. In most cases, it is permanent because you will see a drastic change in your vision for the better. This will last you many years. However, post 60 years of age, you will have problems with your vision. However, that is a natural result of old age and other factors. The chances of you getting glaucoma also increase exponentially. However, this is something that you have to deal with at a much later stage of your life. If you have an extremely high number or just generally do not want to wear spectacles, Lasik is the right option for you.

In very rare cases you will have to get another surgery done. This will only be after the advice of your doctor. This case will rise if the first surgery does not take off enough of the cornea. You will not achieve the perfect vision that you always wanted. Even though your vision will improve a lot, you still may need spectacles, which will defeat the purpose of getting Lasik in the first place.

Are Your Eyes Healthy Enough for a Lasik Eye Surgery?

One of the major barriers people face, besides the costs for Lasik eye surgery in India, is its eligibility. While the procedure has been a great success for whoever gets it and there are no complications involved with it, it is important to figure out whether you are eligible for the surgery or not. It should not be the case that you give incorrect information at any point to your doctor in order to get the surgery done. More importantly, they carry out a series of tests to check and map everything themselves as well. Even then, you cannot push to get the surgery done. Or, go to another doctor because they too will give you a similar answer.

If you have any kind of infection or eye disease, especially keratoconus, you have to be extremely careful while getting this surgery done. In fact, there are multiple precautions you need to take for any other eye procedures as well. If you have a condition that gives you extremely dry eyes, you will not be allowed to get this procedure done. One of the biggest side effects of the surgery is dry eyes. So, your condition may just get worse. In case of any eye injuries or even having large pupils will ultimately affect the results of the surgery. A major reason why all these precautions are in place is to understand the kind of pressure your eyes can handle. However, if you have glaucoma, it will not be possible for you to get this surgery. It will increase the overall pressure in your eye, making the situation worse. So, the doctor will also be checking for any signs of glaucoma at the time of your tests and screenings.

What is Better – Lasik Eye Surgery or Reading Glasses?

It is natural that your eyesight will deteriorate over time. This is possible because of your age and lifestyle. Since all our lives are online and in front of a screen, it definitely has had an impact on your eyesight. However, decades before the pandemic, people have been facing diverse problems with their vision because of how sedentary our life is now. So, yes, you are bound to face problems in seeing at a distance or reading the fine print as you grow older. This will happen much later to you when you are in your 40s. However, you need to know your options, especially if you are already wearing spectacles.

This is different from being far-sighted or even being near-sighted. This condition occurs from age itself, called presbyopia. It is for this reason that the results from Lasik surgery will not be the same. Your doctor may not advise you to go ahead with this surgery. The elasticity and strength of your lens reduce in this condition. Lasik surgeries reshape your cornea and your cornea will need time to heal. The cornea will be stripped off. One of the major tests will be to see how thick the cornea is. This is why it is better that you wear reading glasses. Age is a big factor when you are making a decision for this surgery. You should take this decision only after consulting with your eye doctor because the chances of getting glaucoma are much higher for you.

If you are already showing signs of glaucoma, you will not be given clearance to sit for this surgery. There are other treatments in place for you to treat your glaucoma.

What to Expect from Your Lasik Eye Surgery?

Immediately after your Lasik surgery from a Lasik expert like Visual Aids Centre, your surgeon will let you rest for a bit. You will definitely feel a lot of sensation in your eyes as and when the anaesthesia wears off. There will be a burning sensation and you will definitely want to scratch your eyes. However, you will be in the clinic for some observations. Some other side effects may come to the surface as well. The most common is blurry and hazy vision. You may also get double vision but it is important that you do not try to rub your eyes at all. You may get hurt because it is like aggravating an open wound at this point. The healing process has to be completely undisturbed.

However, as you progress in this healing process, you will get a clearer vision by the day. You have to wait for a couple of hours till you can look at a screen. You’re follow up session will be the day after your surgery. This is when they will be checking when you can start driving again. The basic issues that come up at this time are double vision, halos and hazy vision. These go away in some time, so there is nothing to worry about.

You will experience a dramatic change in your vision in these two days itself. It may even take an entire week for your vision to become perfect. However, the side effects will be gone and you will be able to go back to your normal life very quickly. Even if you need to wear spectacles or lenses after the surgery, it will be to drive better at night or if you are sensitive to sunlight after the surgery. You may also just need glasses later on in life because of age-related vision loss, which in itself can bring diverse impacts on your life.

What Are The Possible Side Effects After Lasik?

Getting Lasik eye surgery is a medical procedure that can only be carried out by a medical professional in a sanitised and controlled environment. Keeping all these things in mind, it is important you understand that it is a voluntary surgery and there will be side effects. This is normal and bound to happen with any surgery done to your body. However, this is an expansive list of potential side effects. It does not mean that all these will happen to you. It is possible to have a very smooth healing process, which is the case in almost all cases. These are some exceptions.

Once you have gone through the surgery, you will be asked to wait to observe any adverse changes. You will definitely feel a burning sensation and dryness. It will increase with time and you absolutely cannot touch your eyes. It will come down in a day or so but throughout the healing period, you cannot touch your eyes at all. Your doctor may give you some eye drops to deal with itchiness and dryness. You will also have a glare and may have a hazy vision in this time period. This is why you will also not be able to drive till your doctor clears you for the same.

There also have been cases where the patient has had to go for another Lasik surgery because the first surgery did not take off enough of the cornea’s layer. This is possible because the doctor has to take precautions. However, this does not mean that you will not see any change. Your vision will improve drastically but not to the optimal actual extent that you could have achieved.
